Financial Industry Business Concepts

The Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO) has sixteen fundamental classes. Hence the ontology-derived FIB-DM has sixteen Basic Concepts.

In the ontology, a fundamental class must be a class directly derived from The Thing. In the data model, a Basic Concept must be an ultimate supertype. In other words, the entity must not be a child in an inheritance.

Forty FIB-DM entities, derived from FIBO fundamental classes fulfil the condition. For the FIB-DM tutorials, I arbitrarily designated the sixteen Basic Concepts as ultimate supertypes with a lot of subtypes and associations.

The table below shows the Basic Concepts, the Ultimate supertype entity, and its definition.

The embedded table below has a tab for Entities, Code, Name, Package, Comment, Stereotype, Equivalent, and Inheritance. The second tab, Inheritances, is a list report of all Child and Parent entities participating in inheritance links.

You can use this table to browse all 1869 FIB-DM entities. The column filters narrow down to Basic Concept candidates:

  • Pkg (Package) – FIBO only, excluding LCC, SKOS, and SM
  • Stereotype – excluding associative entities
  • Equivalent – excluding VIEW candidate entities
  • Parent -excluding entities that are child of any othe rentity.
